About This Blog

My name is Joe Pemberton, and this blog is a journal of my motorcycle ride from Seattle to Ushuaia, Argentina during the winter of 2009.  I left Seattle on the morning of November 2nd and headed straightaway for the border crossing at Nogales, Arizona.  I am currently somewhere in Mexico (see where) and I will spend the next three months riding through Central and South American countries with plenty of stops along the way!

I am taking photos of my trip.  They are available at my Flickr photostream.

Does your phone’s gps automatically say where you are on your trip via google maps or earth? Or do we just know when you update the blog?

I have a handheld GPS device that records my tracks as I travel. I am going to try to upload these to Google every day, and they’ll be available in either Google Maps or Google Earth (see the links on the left side)

This isn’t in real time, but it’s an accurate view into my route. The other option is to check the SPOT tracker for my trip (the link is also on the left side). This is less accurate, and there will be large sections missing from my route, but it is in real-time.

Stay safe & Keep Smiling……love you, bev

It’s hard not to be envious of what you’re doing. In fact, it’s impossible. Sounds like a great trip so far, with compliments on your writing style. I can’t wait to hear about Mexican highway traffic. Buenos tardes!

Russ, I’m glad you’re enjoying my trip from afar. It helps motivate me to keep this thing going if I know people are reading and appreciating it! Ola told me that the two of you talked on the phone a few days ago, which I thought was pretty neat. She likes you a lot!

    Hey Joe,
Warm air sounds pretty good right now, it’s snowing here in White Salmon and I’m not ready for it to be that cold yet. Dotty’s dad Chuck is also following your blog, and he (strongly) suggests that you look into getting a chain and lock for your bike. He’s done a few Baja motorcycle trips, and he thinks chaining the bike to something is a great idea. Don’t know if you’ve considwered this yet, but you might think about it (he offered to drop his chain/lock with Ola for her to take with when she visits.) Keep up the writing, I am absolutely loving reading your words. Not quite as good as being there, but the next best thing. Stay safe -

    Hey Joe,
I’m glad that you’ve sidestepped to Baja – I remember the roads there, and I thought you’d like riding them. La Paz is big, but it’s interesting – are you going as far as Cabo, or just La Paz? BTW, when I drove from Santa Rosalia to LP years ago, I misjudged the time and ended up arriving after dark too. Easy to do down there, I think. Love your writing – stay safe, guy -
